Funeral services for Norma June Wiegert Bomar, age 83, of Norfolk formerly of Plainview, will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, January 3, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Plainview. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church with burial in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Norma died December 29, 2010 at the St. Joseph's Rehabilitation and Care Center in Norfolk, NE. Norma June Wiegert, daughter of John and Ava Wiegert was born June 24, 1927, on the family farm ten miles south of Plainview. Norma attended district 9 public school south of Plainview, Creighton High School and finished at Plainview High School. Norma was the eldest of eleven children. She married Raymond Bomar at the Pierce Courthouse on June 21, 1946. The couple lived in Plainview where Raymond owned a trucking company and Norma worked a short time for the Plainview Hospital as a laundress, then at the original Mary's cafe. Norma cooked, waitressed, and made mouth watering pies. She and Raymond built their first home on 8th Street (by the county yard) in Plainview. Norma worked until she and Raymond had their only child, a son, Jerry.In 1958 Norma, Raymond, and Jerry moved to Salinas, California where they lived until 1989. Norma worked as a bookkeeper to Raymond's businesses, automotive garage and gas stations. She also did private housekeeping in Salinas. Upon retirement Norma and Raymond returned to Plainview and bought a home on West Street. Norma and Raymond lived there until Raymond died in 1997. Norma remained in Plainview until 2000 when she moved to Norfolk. She lived in an apartment until 2007 when she moved into The Meadows. She loved living there until September 2010 when she moved to the Hospice room at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation Center.Norma was an active member of the American Legion Auxillary, was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of Eastern Stars, the Plainview Garden Club, the Plainview Senior Citizens Board and a member of the United Methodist Church in Plainview.Survivors include, son Jerry and wife Vivian Bomar of Plainview; 2 grandchildren Jeremy and Jennifer of California; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters Amy and husband Eldred Folkers of Grand Island; Marva Cooper of Phoenix, Arizona; Betty and husband Arnold Howard of Norfolk; brothers, Leroy and wife Norma Wiegert of Lincoln; Larry and wife Alyce Wiegert of Osmond; Bob and wife Kathy Wiegert of Norfolk; Dennis (Dean) Wiegert of Norfolk; and sister-in-law Betty Wiegert. Preceding Norma in death were her husband, Raymond; two sisters, Wanda Smalley and Dorothy Benne; one brother Dwain Wiegert and her parents John and Ava Wiegert; along with lots of relatives and friends.
