Raymond Wachholtz
Norfolk - Services for Raymond C. Wachholtz, 91, of Norfolk, formerly of Plainview, will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 5, at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview with the Rev. Jonathan Meraz officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ashburn Funeral Home in Plainview.
Raymond Carlyle Wachholtz passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Heritage of Bel Air in Norfolk.
Raymond was born January 6, 1920 to Charles and Emma (Gast) Wachholtz on a farm 9 miles south of Plainview. He was one of six children. He was baptized and confirmed at Stark Valley Lutheran Church. He attended rural schools through grade 11 then graduated from Plainview High in 1938. Ray remained on the farm for three years and then worked at Bell Aircraft in Niagara Falls, NY for four years. After returning to Plainview he worked as a mechanic for Saathoff Chevrolet, Allis Chalmers and Plainview International until retirement.
He married Meldene Krohn on June 24, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond, NE. In 1950 they built their home in Plainview where they lived for 60 years and were blessed with the gift of three children, Gene, Rhonda, and Diane.
Raymond was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church having served as vice chairman, elder, Finance Committee member, P.T.L., A.A.L. and a member of Fellowship Club.
Raymond had many hobbies that he enjoyed such as bowling, playing cards, all sports, dancing and being with his family and grandchildren. He was especially proud of his time playing high school basketball and his many years of playing town team and church softball. Ray was a volunteer fireman for 44 years and retired as a fire police officer in 1995.
He is survived by his children, Gene and wife Natalie of Kansas City, MO., Rhonda and husband John Wrenholt of Norfolk and Diane and husband Mark Reestman of Norfolk; grandchildren Dr. Amy Wachholtz-Ayala (Chris) of Shrewsbury, MA., Adam Wachholtz (Jill) of Highlands Ranch, CO., Mike Wrenholt of Florham Park, NJ., Matt Wrenholt of Lincoln, Tim Wrenholt of Omaha, Dan Wrenholt, Kyle Reestman, Kory Reestman, and Brett Reestman all of Norfolk; great grandchildren Tyler and Chase Wachholtz of Highlands Ranch, CO.; sisters-in-law Helen Wachholtz and Renata Krohn of Norfolk and Dorothy Krohn of Plainview; brother and sister-in-law Marvin and Marcy Krohn of Norfolk; brother-in-law Elvin Krohn of Norfolk as well as nieces and nephews along with many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Meldene; brothers Gilbert and Frederick; sisters Elvera Miller, Bernice Holtzclaw and Helen Wachholtz in infancy; brothers-in-law Carl Miller, Robert Holtzclaw, Wm. Wragge, Albert Clausen, Raymond Krohn and Harold Krohn; sisters-in-law Irene Wachholtz, Irma Wragge Clausen, Phyllis Krohn and Verna Krohn in infancy.
