FUNERAL NOTICE
Services for Gordon Raff age 97 of Plainview will be held 10:30 Monday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview.
Visitation for Gordon Raff will be 1 Hr. prior to service at the church. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton.
Military Honors by Plainview American Legion and VFW.
Gordon Haskin Raff was given life by his creator and was born on May 12, 1913, the child of John F. and Blanche E. (Haskin) Raff in Creighton, NE.
On March 25, 1958, he received the gift of Holy Baptism and became a child of God. On March 30, 1958, he publicly confessed his faith and was confirmed. He received the precious gift of the Lord’s life-giving body and blood.
He attended rural schools in Knox County, graduating from the eighth grade. On March 13, 1942 Gordon entered the army and served in Hawaii as a Radar Operator during WWII. He was honorably discharged on October 10, 1945 and returned to farming near Center.
On July 8, 1956, he received the gift of a beloved companion in his spouse, Verona Koehler.
God blessed Gordon’s life with many special people as he served God in his vocations at home, church, work, and in the community.
Finally, on February 22, 2011 God blessed Gordon with a holy death and took him home to rest in the arms of Jesus to await the resurrection of the dead.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Gayle, wife Verona, brother Wayne Raff, sister Zona Gust, nephews Gerald Raff, John Raff, niece Jacquelynn Houska.
Survivors include sisters Violette Huth of San Diego, California, Wanda Houska of Fort Worth, Texas, Zelda Whited of Creighton, brother Bernard and wife Lou Raff of Creighton, sister-in-law Gladys Raff of Pierce and nieces and nephews.
The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord. We give thanks to God our Father through Jesus Christ, our Lord, for our brother Gordon .
