Funeral Services for Carlyle Larson age 94 of Plainview will be held Tuesday April 26 at 10:00 am. at the United Methodist Church in Plainview. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM. Monday April 25th at the Ashburn Funeral Home in Plainview.
Carlyle was born August 23, 1916, at the Larson Homestead south of Plainview to Wiggo Allan and Margaret Mae (McWharter) Larson. He was one of five children. He grew up and lived on the family farm until his marriage to DoLores Clark on May 2, 1942. Carlyle attended District 12 through the tenth grade and graduated from Plainview High School in 1933.
Carlyle started farming after he left high school, and he farmed all of his life until his retirement in 1979. He entered the Army in August of 1942, and he received his discharge in February of 1946. Carlyle was with the 89th Anti-Aircraft Gun Batillion stationed in Washington D.C. from Sept. 1942 until Sept. 1943. He then was sent to Camp Gordon in Georgia until 1944. In January of 1945, Carlyle arrived in Europe. During his tour of duty, he received three battle stars -- one bronze stare for Ardennes, one for Central Europe and one for Rhineland. Oversees, he was mostly with the 116th Anti-Aircraft Batillion.
After his tour of military duty, Carlyle returned home to farm. He and DoLores purchased Kenwood Farm in 1947, moved in in 1949 and lived there for 30 years.
Carlyle is survived by one son, Byron Kent, one granddaughter, Brooke, one grandson, Nathan Carlyle and one great-grandson, Justin Larson.
Carlyle was a 60-year plus member of the American Legion; a member of the United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he served several offices over the years on the official board; he was a 70-year plus member of the Danish Brotherhood. Carlyle was also president of the Plainview Cemetery Association since 1995, having joined the board in 1960.
One Carlyle’s greatest pleasures in life was traveling with his wife. They traveled to every state in the U.S., including Hawaii and Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Europe and South America. They enjoyed eight cruises – one from Greece, one to Alaska and the rest in the Caribbean, to New Zealand and Australia.
Carlyle was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Chester; his sister, Velda Bohl; his brother, Hubert; his brother, Roger; and his wife.
