Genevieve L. Nelson (Plainview)

July 28, 1910 — July 10, 2011

Genevieve was born July 28, 1910 at Ewing on the Hoke homestead and passed away July 10, 2011 at Plainview Manor. She was the daughter of William and Phoebe Jane (Gunter) Hoke.

She attended Antelope County District 86 and graduated from Ewing Public School in 1928.

She married Alvin Nelson on September 1, 1932 in Neligh NE. They lived five and half miles south of Plainview and she moved into Plainview in 1984. They had one son, James.

Besides being a housewife and mother, she baked many wedding cakes with a good friend Velda Bohl. Raised a large garden and had a green thumb for raising flowers which was her passion. She was a good cook always making something well known for rye bread, cheese, and deviled eggs. You always had to have a cup of coffee and lunch no matter what when you visited her. She helped with the Red Cross, worked at Steinkraus IGA, and cooked at Corner Café. She enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

She belonged to Mount Vernon Chapter #84 Order of Eastern Star receiving her fifty year pin, also was a member of the Ruth Circle of the Congregational Church, Homemakers Exchange Club, and many card clubs. She enjoyed going to the grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s school activities.

She is survived by her son James and wife Delores. Grandchildren Keith and Maribeth Nelson, Jerry and Marilyn Nelson, Kimberly Nelson and Fiancé Tyler Roberts, Sheldon and Jenni Nelson, and Monica and Matthew Goeres. Great grandchildren Holli, Heidi, Cameron, Connor, Brandon, Jordan, Morgan and Jill and Great-Great grandchildren Brady, Ashton, Madison, and Robbie and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Dewitt and William Hoke, sisters Elsie Gunter, Mable Prunty, Ethel Prunty, Sylvia Harvey and Verna Pennington.


Pallbearers: Keith Nelson, Jerry Nelson, Sheldon Nelson, Brandon Nelson, Jordan Nelson, and Ryne Hobbs.


Visitation is on Tuesday July 12 from 5pm to 8pm with a 7pm Order of the Eastern Star service at the Congregational Church, Plainview NE.

Funeral services are on Wednesday July 13th at 10am at the Congregational Church in Plainview NE.
