Leo James Cleveland (Plainview)

May 16, 1918 — October 30, 2012

Funeral services for Leo Cleveland, age 94, of Plainview will be held Friday, November 2nd ,2012 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Plainview. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview. Visitation for Leo Cleveland will be one hour prior to service at the Our Savior Lutheran Church. Military Honors will be conducted by Plainview American Legion Post #148 and VFW Post #5330.

Leo Cleveland was born May 16, 1918 to Alfred & Stella (Adams) Cleveland of Ewing, NE. He attended public school thru 9th grade. Leo worked for local farmers until he enlisted in the Army in 1941. He served in the 3rd Armored Division and was wounded in France. To this injury he received a Purple Heart and spent over 3 years in various Army Hospitals. On June 2nd, 1943 he married Vera Cleveland of Ewing, NE. To this union two children were born, Lana Reige of Blair, NE and Rodie Cleveland of Midway, TX.

After Leo’s discharge from the Army he returned to Orchard and then moved onto Vera’s family farm between Orchard and Ewing. Leo farmed until his retirement. In 1984, Leo & Vera moved to Neligh, NE into an assisted living facility. In 2006, he was moved to the Norfolk Vets home where he expired. Leo enjoyed wood carving, reading, watching TV and his family and friends.

Leo is survived by his daughter Lana and husband Arlen, son Rodie Cleveland, grandchildren, Chad Riege, Amy Keck and husband Mike, Ellen Shriver and husband Scott, and Vicki Riege, eight great-grandchildren, sister Bernice Porter of Kearney, NE and sister-in-law Edna Nelson of Orchard, NE and a host of relatives and friends. Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Vera, parents, one sister, two brothers and a grandson-in-law.
