Funeral services for Raymond I. Pendergast age 87 of Plainview were held on February 2, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Plainview.
Burial was at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview.
Raymond I. Pendergast was born March 20, 1925 to Ira and Ranghild (Forsberg) Pendergast in Plainview, Nebraska, and died Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, NE.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943 at the age of 18 years old. He fought on the European Front where he was taken prisoner for 72 days in a German prison camp.
He was united in marriage to Estella (Sally) Neville on February 22, 1948 at Plainview. To this union two daughters were born. They made their home in the Plainview area where they raised their children.
Ray and Sally enjoyed traveling after their retirement to various places, especially their winter home in Texas.
He was an active member of the United Methodist Church where held many offices through the years. He enjoyed gardening, especially his watermelons. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Everett, Charles, Milton, Bob, Jim; and sister Margret Ober.
Ray Pendergast is survived by his wife Sally, daughters Dianne (Albert) Friedrich and Sheri (Pat) Pofahl; sisters Inez (Dale) Blum of Pierce and Mary Lou Snyder of Norfolk; 4 grandchildren Cory Friedrich, Carmen (Craig) Moeller, Ryan Nissen and friend Sarah Jansa, and Tony (Jodi) Nissen; and many relatives and friends.
