Edwin V. Stech, 91, of Osmond died Monday, September 9, 2013 at Osmond General Hospital.
Services will be at 10:00am Monday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Osmond with burial in St. Mary’s Catholic cemetery and flag presentation by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7838 and American Legion Post 326. Visitation will be 5-8pm Sunday with a 7:30pm Rosary at the church under the direction of Ashburn Funeral Homes. The Rev. Michael Swanton will officiate.
He was born September 18, 1921 in Pierce County, the son of Victor and Ida (Jilg) Stech. He attended country school and St. Mary’s Catholic School through the eighth grade. He entered the United States Navy on April 11, 1945 and was honorably discharged on June 6, 1946. He began farming on the family farm.
He married Bernadine Knuever on June 13, 1951 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Monterrey, NE. The couple farmed and raised livestock near Osmond until 1986 when they moved into town.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters Court 1554. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7838 and American Legion Post 326. He served in the past on St. Mary’s School Board and Parish Council. He was also an EMHC for many years. Ed enjoyed spending time with his family, planting and caring for a large garden, traveling with family and friends and taking drives around the countryside. His favorite time of year was harvest.
Ed is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bernadine of Osmond, one daughter, Margaret (Barry) Evans of Osmond, and four sons, Gerald (Nancy) Stech, Marvin (Mary Beth) Stech, Ronald (Terri) Stech all of Osmond and Robert (Jane) Stech of Norfolk, 25 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Dorothy Rowley of Pierce and Delores Muller of Osmond and brother –in-law, Norbert Gubbels. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Francis and James.
