Marvin W. Johnson

Funeral services for Marvin Johnson, 86, will be held Monday, March 10th at United Methodist Church in Verdigre at 11:00 am with burial to be held at Riverside Cemetery following the service. Visitation hours will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday March 9th at United Methodist Church in Plainview officiated by Pastor Lana Fong. Funeral arrangements are made by Ashburn Funeral home of Plainview.

Marvin Wayne Johnson was born to David and Thelma (Vonasek) Johnson on April 29th, 1927 in Walnut NE where he was raised with his siblings Irene, Lysle, and Howard. He started school in Verdigre only to attend for a week before Howard decided they should go to school together, so he stayed home for a year before attending school and graduating with Howard in 1945.

On June 4th 1947 Marvin married Lavon LuRae Spangler at the Presbyterian Church in O’Neill NE. They made their home west of Verdigre where they started their family. To this union 3 children were born: Darvin, Dawn and Darla.

Marvin had a great love for the land and all that it could provide. Not only did he devote his life to the ranch and farm, but he was also a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Marvin and Lavon were avid dancers and shined while doing so. He was known for his heart of gold and magic dancing boots. Marvin was a long time member of the Cattleman’s Association and Farmer’s Coop Association in Verdigre. He was also a member of the township board and Methodist church.

Marvin suffered from Alzheimer’s and passed away Thursday, March 6th 2014 at the Plainview Manor. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings .

He is survived by his wife Lavon and children: Darvin and Carol Johsnon of North Platte; Warren and Dawn Montgomery of Orchard; and Roger and Darla Hauf of Clearwater. 8 grandchildren: Del (Kristi) Johnson, Travis (Lisa) Montgomery, Devin (Jodie) Johnson, Trent (Cindy) Montgomery; Aimee Hauf (Jeremiah Bartak), Desirae (Nate) Schwager, Ashley and Aaron Hauf. 11 great grandchildren: Justin, Morgan and Kylie Johnson, Collin and Connor Montgomery, Jaylin Johnson, Trever and Payton Montgomery, Bree Bartak, and Mason and Braxton Schwager, along with many relatives and friends
