Edward L. Friedrich

Edward L. Friedrich was born on October 7, 1922, to John and Edith (Thompson) Friedrich. Edward was baptized in November of that same year at the Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview. He was confirmed in April 1936. His confirmation verse was II Corinthians 5:15.

Edward attended country school and Zion Lutheran School until the eighth grade, when he dropped out to help his parents on the family farm. Edward’s parents instilled in him principles that would shape his entire life and to which he could attribute his many successes. His respect and love of the land and livestock made him a very dedicated and hardworking farmer.

Edward was drafted into the U.S. Army in March of 1945. He served nineteen months until he was honorably discharged in December of 1946. While in the Army, he served in the Philippines, Guam, and Leyte.

Edward married Mary Warnock on June 15, 1952, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview. They made their home north of Plainview for almost 62 years.

During his lifetime, Edward was director of the Norfolk PCA and the Farmers Union. He spent many years custom drilling rye, combining, and hauling hay. He enjoyed Polka music, dancing to Country Western music, coffee shop stops, and taking care of his cows and calves.

He is survived by his wife Mary, special cousin Albert (Dianne) Friedrich, sister Lois Huebner, brother Gerald (Ila) Friedrich, four God Children, many nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

Edward was proceeded in death by his parents and his sisters Bernice Holst and Jean Gosswein.

Matthew 25:23, “Well done, good and faithful servant. Come and share your master’s happiness.”
