Helen I. Thomsen (Osmond)

Helen Thomsen, 92, lifetime resident of Osmond, NE, died peacefully on August 23, 2014 in Randolph, NE after a short illness. Helen was born August 17, 1922 in Osmond to Anna (Ertzner) Thomsen and Harry Thomsen Jr. After graduation from Osmond High School in 1939, Helen attended Wayne State Teacher’s College. She taught for one year and then worked at Coleson-Holmquist Company for many years as their bookkeeper. Helen was a life-long member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 326 serving as president in 1949.


Helen is survived by sisters Violet (Jerome “Bud”) Veik and Margie Thomsen both of Osmond. In addition, Helen is survived by nieces and nephews, Terry (Linda ) McClain, Fremont, NE, Diane (Lonnie) Erhardt, Wayne, NE, Roger (Bernice) Zobel, Grand Island, NE, David Zobel, Lincoln, NE, Carolyn (Gary) Christensen, Lincoln, NE, Marilynn (John) Gunter, Marshall MN, Jacalyn (Dan) Pospisil, Norfolk, NE, Shari (Peter) Paglio, Dawsonville, GA and Shelly (Tom) Hinds, South Sioux City, NE.


As the third of six children, Helen was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Evelyn (Clayton) McClain, Earl Thomsen and Irene (Wayne) Zobel. Helen was always very athletic and loved the outdoors. She especially enjoyed boating and water-skiing with her dear friend, the late Darrel Petsche.

Helen’s funeral will be Wednesday, August 27, 2014, 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond. Visitation will be at Ashburn Funeral Home in Osmond from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Osmond, or the charity of your choice.
