Services for Bernita A. Sorensen, 73, of Plainview were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday October 20th at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Plainview with burial at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview and Rev. Donna Runge officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Church under the direction of Ashburn Funeral Home.
She died Friday, October 17, 2014, at the Plainview Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bernita was born on May 6, 1941 at Osmond to Walter and Ruth (Hansen) Oltjenbruns. She was baptized on June 8, 1941 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Osmond. On April 3, 1955, she was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church rural Venus.
She moved to the Walnut-Venus area when she was three years old. Her mother passed away when she was five years old, she stayed with her aunt and uncle Jesse and Marie Withee till her grandmother Meta Oltjenbruns came and lived with the family. At the age of 14 she moved to Osmond to live with her aunt and uncle Walter and Lena Koehler, where she attended Osmond High School and graduated in 1959.
She married Marvin Sorensen on June 21, 1959 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond. They lived in the Plainview area their entire life. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and was involved in many church activities. Bernita was a homemaker that enjoyed coffee with her friends, flower gardening, counted cross stitching, golfing, and Nebraska Cornhusker sports. One of her greatest joys was her grandchildren and attending their activities.
Survivors include her husband Marvin of 55 years, her children Michael (Deb) Sorensen, Plainview; Joel (Cynthia) Sorensen, Bonner Springs, Kansas; Beth (Darin) Petersen, Stanton; Ruth (Jon) Vyhlidal, Fremont; grandchildren Bret (Sara) Sorensen, Tonganoxie, Kansas; Monica Sorensen and fiancé Nick Holle, Lincoln; Nicole Sorensen, Ogallala, Rachel Sorensen, Lincoln; Stephanie Sorensen, Plainview; Steven Petersen, Lincoln; Jason Petersen, Stanton; Cody and Caitlyn Vyhlidal, Fremont; great grandson Austin Sorensen, Tonganoxie, Kansas; brother Kenneth (Earline) Oltjenbruns, Page; sister-in-laws Marvene Oltjenbruns, Omaha; Vernetta Oltjenbruns, Fredricksburg, TX; and Berdeen Joyce, Plainview; special cousins Marvin (Janice) Koehler and Lois Koehler, Osmond.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Hubert (Mary Lou), Roland, and Byron Oltjenbruns; special cousins Dale (Fern) and Ronald Koehler; and brother-in-law Loel Joyce.
Lori Koehler will be the organist, and congregational hymns will be “Amazing Grace”, “On Eagle's Wings”, “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, and “Just a Closer Walk with Thee”.
