Violet June Steinkraus was born February 26, 1922 at Plainview, NE. Her parents were Frank and Ida (Hladik) Miller. Her schooling took place in Sioux City, Iowa, except 3 ½ years, which was spent at Plainview. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1939. In the same year, she was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview where she continued to be a member. Her confirmation verse was John 8: 31-32, “If you continue in my word then you are my disciples indeed. You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.”

On October 4, 1940, she married Frederick H. “Bill” Steinkraus at Plainview by the Rev. J. Holstein. To this union, one daughter, Julie Ellen, was born.

For over 30 years, June kept the Standard Oil books until “Bill’s” retirement in 1975. Besides her love for God, family and friends, she had a great love for reading especially her favorite book, The Bible. June’s wish was that “all people” could know Jesus as their Savior!

She is survived by her daughter Julie (Keith) Johnson of Norfolk, NE, three grandchildren: Dorie (Kraig) Swogger of Overland Park, KS, Lee (Cindy) Johnson of Wichita, KS, and Mindy (Justin) Young of Pasco, WA; eight great-grandchildren: Ryan, Trevor, Austin and Bailey Swogger; Emily and Karly Johnson; and Maguire and Cruz Young. One brother Richard (Salome) Miller of Hubbard, OR, sister-in-law Kathleen Palmer of Chambers and nephews: Eugene, Barry and Rick Steinkraus of Plainview.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Frederick “Bill”, on March 25, 2003, her parents, a sister, Alice, and an infant sister, Florence Marie.
