PLAINVIEW – Services for Byron E. Heyer, 88, rural Plainview, will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Plainview. Rev. Alice will officiate with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Ashburn Funeral Home in Plainview.

He passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015, at Plainview Manor.

The son of Herbert and Lorena (Straub) Heyer was born May 1, 1926, at Plainview, NE.

He attended district 9 through 9th grade, then the family moved to Creighton, where he graduated high school in 1943. Following graduation, he traveled and worked in the Texas area with a painting crew for a short time, before returning home to manage the family farm. He farmed for 55 years before retiring in 1999.

On May 10, 1953, Byron married Sara Sayler, at the United Methodist Church in Plainview, NE. The couple celebrated 46 years of marriage. He served on church committees and also served as a mentor in the church. Byron enjoyed spending time with his family and was very proud of his eleven grandchildren.

Survivors include one son and wife, Kelly and Tara Heyer, Jamestown, ND; three daughters and their husbands, Robin and Gary Malishewski, Pierce, NE; Tracy and Gordon Rasmussen, Holmen, WI; Jolene and Michael Young, Bellevue, NE; two sisters, Cleo Swisher, San Diego, CA; Glee and John Bartak, Plainview, NE; eleven grandchildren, Michaela, Jason, Erika, Eric, Melissa, Jessica, Tony, Brooke, Makenzi, Nathan and Emma; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Byron was preceded in death by his wife, Sara, his parents, Herbert and Lorena, sisters, Edna Alexander, Iva Ackers, Beverly Stahlman, and brother, Clinton Heyer.
