Sylas E. Coy, age 81, of Ewing passed away Saturday morning May 23, 2015 at the Avera St. Anthony Hospital in O’Neill. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 27th, 2015 at the Orchard United Methodist Church with Rev. Stuart Davis officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 26th at the Ashburn Funeral Home in Orchard. Burial will be in the Orchard Hill Cemetery in Orchard with military graveside rites conducted by the Orchard American Legion Post 136.
Sylas was born August 7, 1933 in Stuart to Alice (Driskill) and Sylas Earl Coy. He attended school in Atkinson and earned his diploma in 1952. On January 2, 1954 he married Elsie M. Cooper in the Assembly of God Church in O’Neill. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on February 11, 1953 and on September 15, 1954 he was released to come home and work on the farm for his father-in-law who had passed away. He was a member of the Orchard United Methodist Church, the Orchard School Board, American Legion Post 136 where he was commander from 1978-1984, and the Frenchtown Township Board.
Sylas is survived by his wife, Elsie, of 61 years; a daughter Marsha and her husband Todd Drury; three grandchildren: Holly and her husband Kent Carpenter of Norfolk, Ashley Drury of Bellevue, and Tylor Drury of Brunswick.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother.
Memorials may be made to the family for future designation.
