Robert Henry Schwager, 84, has gone to be with his Lord and beloved wife Karen on May 27th, 2015. He passed away at the Plainview Manor, Plainview, Nebraska. Visitation services will be from 5-7pm on Friday, May 29th at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and funeral services will be May 30th at 2pm at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He will be laid to rest in the Orchard Hill Cemetery with Military Rites.
Robert was born to Paul and Clara (Aaberg) on March 1, 1931 on the home place 2 miles east and 2 miles south of Orchard. He attended country school and then later attended Orchard Public School and graduated in May of 1948.
Robert lived on the family farm up until he was requested to go and serve for his country. On March 11, 1952 through March 10, 1954, he served in the army during the Korean War receiving a rank of Private E-1. Robert served his country stateside in Fort Riley, Kansas, where he taught self-defense.
Robert married Karen Stelling on May 26, 1957 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Orchard, Nebraska. To this union 4 children were born. Robert and Karen settled down on a farm 2 miles south and ½ west of Royal. Robert lived there until July of 2012, at which time he had fallen and broken a hip and needed extra care. He then resided in the Plainview Manor from July 2012 until his death.
Robert was baptized and confirmed into the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church as an adult, and he was very active in church. Robert sold DeKalb seed corn for 24 years. He served on the Board of Directors for Citizen State Bank, Clearwater, Nebraska, for 26 ½ years. Robert also served on the Board of Directors for REA out of Battle Creek, Nebraska for 30 years.
Robert had always enjoyed serving his Lord, traveling, fishing, playing cards, telling jokes and spending time with his family.
Robert is survived by his children Roger (Terri) Schwager of Chambers, Wayne Schwager of Royal, Carolyn (Kevin) Petersen and Michael of Royal. Grandchildren: Jeremy, Erik, Kody (wife Jessica), Daniel, Paul, Marcus, Shanne, and Chad Schwager, Kristi Petersen, Katie (Stan) Murphy, Kassie (Joe) Meyer, Kaylee Petersen, Sara (Scott) Pelster and many Great Grand Children along with many Nieces, Nephews, relatives and friends.
Robert is preceded in death by his Parents, Paul and Clara, his Sisters Pauline Wiley and husband Marvin, Leona Wells and husband LaVern, Viola Rabe and husband Norman, Adeline Vocelka and husband Frank, brothers Mervin and wife Pat and brother Dwaine. His beloved wife Karen, and one granddaughter (stillborn).
