Funeral services for Warren F. Hoffart will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Plainview, Nebraska on Wednesday, February 10 at 11:00 with burial at Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview. A visitation will take place at the church from 10:00 until service time and a luncheon will follow at the Church. Pastor Donna Runge will officiate. Ashburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Warren Frederick Hoffart was born August 11, 1921 in Plainview, Nebraska to Henry J. and Fairy (Sterner) Hoffart. Warren was raised on the family farm in Eden Valley northeast of Plainview. He was baptized October 2, 1921 and confirmed April 14, 1935. His Confirmation memory verse was Proverbs 3: 5-6. Warren attended school through the 8th grade at Rural District 21 and high school at Plainview High where he graduated in 1938.
Warren was drafted into the Army in 1942 and served in the 11th Armored Division, European Theater during World War 2. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and received three Battle Stars and a Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon returning home Warren married Ruth E. Douglas on April 11, 1946.
Warren and Ruth made Plainview their lifelong home. Warren worked for Saathoff Chevrolet, as an auto mechanic for 30 years at Plainview Farm Equipment, then later at Plainview International and Kumm, Inc.
Warren was a member of American Legion Claire Fryer Post 148 where he served as Treasurer for 20 years and a member of the VFW. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church which is now Our Savior’s Lutheran and served on the church council and as treasurer. Warren also served for many years on the Plainview Cemetery Board.
Warren and Ruth enjoyed many years on the Plainview golf course, where he taught his children and grandchildren the love of golf.
In 2012, Warren and Ruth moved from their home in Plainview to The Meadows in Norfolk.
He died on February 6, 2016 at Heritage of Bel Air Nursing home in Norfolk with his family at his side.
Warren is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth. Sons, Rolly and his wife Joanie of Omaha, Rex and his wife Barb of Norfolk , and daughter, Judy and her husband Tim Ellis of Wayne, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, brothers Ervin Hoffart and Hank Hoffart and sister Donna Lerum.
Warren was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Art & Merle, two sisters, Bernice and a sister in infancy.
