Jayne Kay Gentzler

Funeral Services for Jayne Kay Gentzler age 77 of Plainview will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 9th at the First United Congregation Church in Plainview. Visitation will be Sunday, January 8th from 4-8 P.M. at the Ashburn Funeral Home in Plainview. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Jayne passed away January 6, 2017 at the Plainview Hospital.

Jayne was born at 206 N. Elm Street in Plainview on February 3, 1939. She was the daughter of Edward and Lois Tepner. Jayne was baptized in the First Congregation UCC in Plainview where she was a member for over 50 years and was also a past Worthy Matron. She sang in the church choir during high School and held several positions in her church including Sunday School Superintendent, clerk and served on the deaconate for several terms. Jayne was a Graduate of Plainview Public High School.

On August 16, 1956 she was married to James Gentzler Jr. in Yankton, S.D. The couple had four children: Bob, Craig, Kelly and Kristine. Jayne worked at several places including the Plainview Sales Pavilion, Family Food Center, Alby’s Grocery, Plainview Clothing and Watson’s Chevrolet.

In 1974 she began her career as City Clerk/Treasurer for the City of Plainview. Jayne went on to earn a Master Municipal Clerk Certification from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the International Institute of Municipal Clerks and was chairperson of the Municipal Accounting and Finance section sponsored by the League of Municipalities from 1981-1982. She loved her job and the people of Plainview. Jayne retired after almost 30 years. She loved nature and the great outdoors. She enjoyed golf, hunting, waterskiing at the river and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Jayne loved all animals and best of all her Golden Retrievers.

Jayne is survived by her children: Bob and Susan of Fremont, Craig and Lisa of Pipestone, MN; Kelly and Bart Pendergast of Plainview and Kris and Kirk Friedrich of Norfolk. Grandchildren Brittany and Stephen Gentzler, Collin Copple and Heather Pendergast, Derek, Taylor and Samantha Friedrich and one sister Janeane and husband Roger Miller of Gold Canyon, AZ.

Jayne was preceded in death by her parents Lois and Ed Tepner and beloved husband Jim.
