Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am. September 2, 2009 at the St. Peter's Lutheran church in Orchard with burial in the Orchard Hill cemetery. Vististation will be from 5-8 PM. on Tuesday at the Ashburn Funeral Home in Orchatd.

Harold D. Meyer, 87, Verdigre, died Saturday (8-29-09) at Creighton Area Health Services.
Born (5-03-22) south of Dodge, NE, the fourth of six children born to Henry and Gesine (Paradies) Meyer. He attended rural schools in Dodge County. On February 27, 1943, he was married to Margie Wendt of Pilger. The couple farmed in Dodge and Stanton counties. An auctioneer, he conducted many farm and household auctions throughout Northeast Nebraska. He regularly donated his services to auctioneer for charitable fund-raisers. Later, he and Margie owned and operated the Orchard Sales Pavilion and Meyer Feed and Trucking of Orchard. Margie passed away in 1989.
He was married to Violet Jaros in 1991. They made their home in Verdigre. After Vi’s death, he lived in Orchard and Pilger before returning to Verdigre. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Orchard.
He enjoyed raising livestock and having pets, and he loved playing cards and sharing a good story. He had an ardent interest in politics and closely followed national and world news.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; sister, Dorothy Malzacher; brothers, Walter and George; and daughter, Marla Heller.
Survived by children: Patricia (Terry) Hoffart of Stromsburg, NE, Ron (Joleen) of Orchard; Leon of Piedmont, OK; Jerry (Teri) of Oacoma, SD; Lorrie (Max) Schroeder of Pilger; Jon (Wendy) of Orchard; son-in-law, Steve Heller of Wisner, NE; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Schrage of Columbus, NE: brother, Melvin (Alma) Meyer of Pilger; and many nieces and nephews.
