Helen Mitteis

Services for Helen Marie Mitteis will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Verdigre, NE. A visitation will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church on Tuesday, June 6th from 6:00-8:00 PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:30 PM.
Helen was born at Venus, NE on May 11, 1934, to Floyd and Elsie (Butterfield) Hildreth. She attended elementary school in the Walnut area and graduated from Verdigre High School in 1951. While in high school, Helen worked at the Bank of Verdigre. She married Bill Mitteis on November 18, 1952, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Verdigre, NE. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage.
Helen kept the books for their construction business for over 60 years, while doing this, she was also employed as a nurse’s aide at the Plainview Hospital for 20+ years. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Orchard and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Verdigre where she belonged to the Ladies Aid and LWML. She also belonged to the Orchard Legion Auxiliary and served on the election board for many years.
Helen’s favorite things to do were playing cards, Bridge was one of her favorites, watching her grandchildren participate in programs and sporting events, working with her flowers, and wintering in Las Vegas. Bill and Helen enjoyed all of the trips and cruises they took with family and friends.
Helen passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Avera -St. Anthony’s Hospital in O’Neill, NE.
She is survived by her husband, Bill, of Royal, sons: Curt (Connie) Mitteis of Orchard, Kelly (Mary Ann) Mitteis of Staunton, IL, Kreg (Renee) Mitteis of Orchard, daughter Connie (Jim) Gould of Plainview, and daughter Kristi (Brian) Benck of Columbus, a brother, Garold Hildreth, of Spokane, WA, and sisters, Fran (Jim) Blessen of Verdigre, and Lavonne (Ron) Pavlik of Leesburg, GA; 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Elsie Hildreth, 2 brothers, Bud Hildreth and Darrell Hildreth, and 1 grandson, Adam.
