Funeral Services for Dennis Vinson, age 83, of Foster will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, January 17th at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Foster, with military honors. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 16th from 4-8 P.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Foster. Burial will be in the Prospect View Cemetery in Pierce. Dennis passed away January 12, 2018 at the Plainview Manor.
Dennis Oliver Vinson was born on October 15th, 1934 to Oliver and Wilma (Duerst) Vinson, near Foster, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Foster. Dennis went to grade school at county schools in and around Foster, than graduated from Plainview High School in the class of 1952. He entered the U.S. Army January of 1955, and served as an anti-aircraft intelligence specialist on an Air Force Base in Michigan. After his service, Dennis began farming near Foster, where he raised hogs, cattle and crops for over 40 years. While farming, he was also a Pioneer Seed salesman for 29 years. On September 15th, 1957, Dennis married Sharon Peterson of Plainview. To this union Dennis and Sharon were blessed with three children; Kelly, Regina and Clark.
Dennis was very active in his church and community. He served on the rural School Board, volunteered as a rural telephone linesman, and belonged to the National Farmers Organi-zation. Dennis also was a very active member of the American Legion, and was a member of the Legion Honor Guard for over 30 years. He worked for the Pierce County FSA office for 10 years, and was a member of the Pierce County Weed Board for 15 years. When he retired from farming, Dennis went on to work for several insurance companies as a crop adjuster for over 20 years. Dennis truly enjoyed working with and for farmers.
Dennis and his wife Sharon, enjoyed spending time together traveling, dancing and visit-ing their family and friends. Spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought Dennis so much joy. His sense of humor, wisdom, and countless hugs will always be remembered fondly by those who knew him. Dennis will live on in all the hearts of his family who loved him so much. He will be greatly missed.
Dennis is survived by his wife Sharon, his sisters Erma Wiechen of Clarkson and Elaine Vinson of Plainview, and his three children, Kelly (Jim) Lichtenberg of Keystone, SD, Regina (Dennis) Davin of Newborn, TN, and Clark (Mary) Vinson of Foster, NE. He is also survived by his twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Wilma Vinson and brother-in-law Harold Wiechen.
