Services for Lorraine Nissen, 97, of Plainview, will be held on Friday, February 16th at 11 AM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Plainview with Rev. David Liewer of?ciating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Osmond with military rites by Osmond American Legion Post #326. Visitation will be held Thursday evening at Ashburn Funeral Home in Plainview beginning at 5 PM with rosary at 7 PM.
Pallbearers are Jonathan Laff, Dan Weeder, Mike Weeder, David Hoffman, Bruce Nissen and Brian Nissen.
Lorraine Weeder Nissen was born October 17, 1920, the daughter of Adolph and Rose (Poeffel )Weeder at Humphrey, Nebraska. In 1924 the Weeder family moved to a farm southwest of Osmond. Lorraine attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Osmond High School in 1938. She attended St. Joseph’s Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa, graduating in 1942.
Lorraine enlisted in the Army Nurse Corp leaving for duty on March 5, 1943. She served 2 1/2 years, the last 1 1/2 years in the Paci?c theatre of war with the 51st General Hospital Unit. She married Willis Nissen on April 9, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Osmond. After 8 years on a farm northwest of Osmond, they moved to the Carl Nissen farm, residing there until the fall of 1992 when they moved to Plainview.
Lorraine returned to nursing in 1967 at Osmond General Hospital, serving as Director of Nursing from 1969 until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Osmond and St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Plainview, serving in both altar societies. She was also very active in the American Legion Auxiliary in both Osmond and Plainview. She moved to Plainview Manor in 2012, where she passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 8, 2018.
Survivors include children Betty and husband Robert Pelham of Littleton, CO, Diane Laff of Parker, CO and Jerome Nissen of Plainview; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, her parents, all 8 of her siblings, infant son, son-in-law and daughter-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Plainview Manor.
