Funeral services for Lawrence Hauf, 86, will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Orchard at 10:00 a.m. With burial to be held in the Orchard Hill Cemetery following the services with military graveside rites by the American Legion Post # 136. Visitation hours will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at St Peter Lutheran Church, with officiating Pastor Jerome Leckband. Funeral arrangements made by Ashburn Funeral Home of Plainview.
Lawrence Rolland Hauf born to William and Thora (Christiansen) Hauf on July 13, 1923 in Colome, South Dakota. He was baptized April 13, 1930. He was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on June 5, 1938. Lawrence and his family moved to Orchard, Nebraska in 1932. He joined the Navy on May 20th, 1944 and received an honorable discharge on May 19, 1946.
On October 3, 1948 Lawrence married Esther Mae Trease at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Orchard. They made their home south of Orchard where, they still reside. To this union three children were born; Linda, Kathy and Roger.
His love and respect of the land and livestock made him a very dedicated and hard working farmer and dairy man. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 136 since 1944. Lawrence also has served on the Garfield Township board since 1955 receiving a plaque in recognition of over 50 years of service.
Lawrence died Thursday, December 3, 2009, at the Plainview Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grand daughter in infancy, and siblings Anna Henry, Myra Mosel, Orval Hauf and Donal Hauf.
Survivors include his wife Esther of 61 years; 3 children and their spouses Linda & (Bob) Hixson of Howe, Texas, Kathy & (Steve) Belik of Orchard and Roger & (Darla) Hauf of Clearwater, 11 grandchildren; Leandra & Gene, Valdez, Angie & Lyle Larsen, Melinda & Elliott Valdez, Michelle & Gabe Bender, Amber Hixson, Tiffany & Jay Kraft, Brock Belik, Aimee, Ashley and Aaron Hauf, great grandchildren; Kaelen, & Ethan Valdez, Collin & Brittany Valdez, Derek & Evan Larson, Gavin & Pryce Bender, and Kaden Kraft, brothers; Jimmy Hauf of Collinsville, Texas, Richard Hauf of Aurora, NE, and sisters: Dorothy Miller of Escondido, California, and Laverna Aughe of Norfolk/ along with many relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
