Verna Erdine Holtzclaw/Wagner/Jensen

Verna was born March 2,1926 to William and Hertha (Hille) Holtzclaw in Hadar,NE. Died 1/18/2010 Columbus Community Hospital. Her mother died at the age of 22 on April 18,1926 from child birth.

Verna was adopted Sept. 17 by her Uncle and Aunt, August and Minnie (Hille) Wagner. Verna spent much of her young life caring for her mother who had (Paralysis) which was later found to be Polio, from which her mother died. Verna continued to care for her father after his retirement from the Chicago/Northwestern Railroad til his passing in 1958. Verna attended both Parochial and Plainview Public School until the 12th grade. On August 7th 1947 she married Alvin Jensen. To this union were three sons; Monte (Walters) Jensen; Alvin Jr; and Kevin Jensen. Monte Jensen and wife Melody of Hastings,NE have 2 daughters and 8 grandchildren. Alvin Jensen Jr. and wife Betty of Harrisburg,SD have 3 children and 5 grand children. Kevin Jensen (Deceased) of Imperial,NE has 2 children and 7 grandchildren.

Verna worked at the Plainview Gen.Hospital from April 1960 to May 1968. She cared for four elderly residents in the basement of the old hospital which was the first Nursing Home in Plainview. In May of 1968 she worked at the Plainview Manor until 1971.

Verna loved to grow vegetables in HUGE gardens from which she canned and froze the bounty. Verna's great delight was to grow huge patches of flowers anywhere she could plant them from seed she had collected. Verna's favorite flower was the (Four O'clock) which fasinated her as it wouldn"t bloom until four O'clock in the afternoon. She also enjoyed writing letters to friends and family and recieving them also. Later in life she enjoyed helping to raise her grand-children!
