Douglas Raymond Eichberger

Services for Douglas R. Eichberger, 86 of Norfolk formerly Plainview were held Mon. Jan. 24,2010 at the United Methodist Church in Plainview. Rev. Stephen Smith officiating. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview with Military Rites by VFW Post 5330 & Am.Legion 148.

Doulgas R. Eichberger, son of Reinhart and Emma ( Huwaldt) Eichberger was born July 4, 1923 in Plainview. He attended various schools around Plainview, He was baptized and confirmed at the Stark Valley Methodist Church of rural Plainview. He worked as a hired hand for area farmers until he went to California and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. During WWII he was drafted into service in Europe and received 5 battle stars.

Douglas married Evelyn Bilau December 14, 1947 at Saint Johns Lutheran Church in Randolph. He was a member of Stark Valley Methodist Church, VFW 5330, and the American Legion. He farmed south of Plainview throughout his married life until April of 2008 when he became a resident of the Norfolk Veterans Home.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn, 4 sons, Duane & Phyllis, Randy & Alene, Mark & Edye and Roger & Stephanie. Daughter-in-law Brenda & husband Jim Walton, 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, sister Ruth Haggard, and sister-in-law, Pat Eichberger, along with many relatives & friends. He was preceeded in death by his parents, brother Marvin, sister Evelyn Otto, and son Gary.

Doug was well known for his cheerful disposition. He took great pride in his family and farming, and was proud to share his birthday with the Independence Day of our country. One of his favorite pass-times was being with his grandchildren and reminiscing with his sons. Much of his time was spent with his collection of antique tractors, gasoline engines, and hand corn-shellers. Doug lived a life of faith and happiness that he graciously shared with his family and friends.
