The son of Norris & Nora (Hayes) Hamilton, Delbert was born Jan. 14, 1926 near Royal, NE and died Feb. 3, 2010 in Norfolk, surrounded by his family…in the arms of loved ones. At about one year of age he moved with his mother and father to the Plainview Area where he attended elementary school, Dist. 51, Antelope Co. in the country. He attended and graduated from high school at Plainview Public Dist. 5 in 1943. After graduating he worked at Swift Packing Plant in Omaha until entering the Army in July 1944. He served in World War II in Europe and the Battle of the Bulge until being honorably discharged in May 1946. He then helped his father and brother on the farm for a year and then off and on when needed.

Delbert owned and operated Ham’s Plumbing, Heating, and Well Drilling for nearly 40 years before retiring. He installed the first irrigation system in the area on his father’s farm, planted the first soy beans and brohm grass, and used the first commercial fertilizer.

He was a member of Plainview Volunteer Fire Dept. for 45 years. He was a life member of the American Legion and VFW. He was active in the renovation and redecorating of two buildings for the Legion Club and one other for his own business.

Delbert married Shirley Thomas May 14, 1947 at First Congregational Church parsonage in Pierce with Rev. Richard Diede officiating. They have celebrated 62 years together, living in Plainview until moving to Norfolk in Oct. 2004. Four daughters and two sons were born to this union.

He is survived by loving wife, Shirley, Terry Hamilton, Diane & Jim Hoffman, Beth Vail, Alice & Dave Dingle, Gene & Michele Hamilton, eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Leslie (Red), son Steven, and granddaughter Jennifer Hoffman.
