Services for Joyce E. Rohlfs

Services for Joyce Elaine Rohlfs, 80, of Osmond will be held at 10 a.m. on March 16, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Osmond with Pastor Carol Jean Stapleton officiating. Burial will be at the Osmond City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, March 15 from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Ashburn Funeral Home in Osmond.

Joyce died on Friday, March 12, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Joyce was born on December 4, 1929 on a farm two miles northeast of Osmond to Thomas and Gertrude C. Goodman. She attended Osmond Public School where she graduated in 1947. She entered the teaching profession and attended Wayne State College for one summer session before beginning her teaching career in District 110E, a rural school north of Osmond. After more summer sessions and night classes, teaching at District 44 north of Pierce and St. Mary’s School in Osmond, she graduated from Wayne State with a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree in 1975. She taught in the Osmond Community School system until her retirement.

Joyce married Marvin E. Rohlfs on August 20, 1957 and they made Osmond their home. They enjoyed traveling, playing cards with their Grandchildren and spending time with family and friends. Joyce’s special interests included cooking, sewing and quilting.

Joyce was a member of the United Methodist Church and served the church in various capacities including serving as a member of the Worship Committee and was recently elected to the Staff Parish Relations Committee. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, holding District and State Conference Offices and serving as Treasurer.

Joyce and her companion of 13 years, Delmer Neubauer, enjoyed spending their winters in the McAllen, Texas area as “Winter Texans.” For several years they spent time participating in the Volunteers in Mission (VIM) program.

Survivors include daughters (spouses) Lani (Gene) Pilgrim of Tampa, FL, and Kathy (John) Fox of Norfolk, NE, four Grandchildren, James (Jeanne) Pilgrim of Covington, GA; Tara (Malcolm) McKenna of Yokota Air Base, Japan; Travis (Keri) Fox of Lincoln, NE; and Traci (Greg) Kuhl of Norfolk, NE, and ten Great-Grandchildren, Ashley Sandefur and Rayne Pilgrim; Ashley Coursey and Caitlyn and Molly McKenna; Cameron, Charlie and Sophia Fox; and Brenna and Gavin Kuhl.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Marvin.
