James David Hoffman (Brunswick)

Funeral Sevices will be held 10:00 Friday May 14, 2010 at the St. Ludgers Catholic church in Creighton, NE.  Visitation will be from 5-7 PM Thursday at the Ashburn Funeral Home in Plainview.  Burial will be in the St. Paul's/St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery in Plainview

James David Hoffman, age 64 of Brunswick, NE. passed away May 11, 2010 at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh, NE. James was born September 16,1945 in Tilden, Nebraska, the son of Beverly Joyce Livingston and Kenneth Anton Hoffman. Jim attended grade school and two years of high school at Brunswick. He completed his schooling and received his diploma at St. Ludger’s in Creighton, Nebraska in 1963 graduating Valedictorian. Jim completed his college education with the University of Nebraska in Lincoln with a degree in Agricultural Economics in 1969.

While in college Jim met Diane Hamilton and they got married on June 3, 1969 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Plainview, NE. Jim then spent 6 years in the U.S. Army Reserves while continuing to farm at the family homestead in Brunswick where three children were born.

Jim was a lifetime member of the St. Ignatius Catholic Church of Brunswick where he served on the parish council, lectured and was an usher. Jim was very involved in the community and served on many boards including Central Valley Ag Board, Brunswick Fire Department and Brunswick Community Club. At the time of his death he proudly was serving on the Antelope Memorial Hospital Board, Zoning and Advisory Board and was Chief Ranger of the Catholic Foresters.

Jim loved farming and was a whiz with numbers. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and playing cribbage with his wife. He was very proud of his children’s accomplishments. His family and friends will remember his strong faith, humble demeanor, quiet intelligence, and gentle manner.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Diane of Brunswick; son Brian and wife Jessica of Brunswick; daughter Katie and husband Jesse Schroeder of Grand Island; granddaughter Stella; grandson Isaac; brother Matt Hoffman of Ogallala, two sisters Renae McKenny of Northglenn, CO and Pam Grosse and husband Randy of Omaha; mother-in-law Shirley Hamilton of Norfolk; sisters-in-laws Alice Dingle and husband Davie of Lincoln, Terry Hamilton of Wayne, Beth Vail of Ft. Collins, CO and brother-in-law Gene Hamilton and wife Michele of Columbus, KS and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his infant daughter Jennifer Sue Hoffman, his parents Kenneth and Beverly Hoffman, and father-in-law Delbert Hamilton.
