Joanne Marie Leiding (Orchard)

Funeral Services will be held 2:00PM. Friday July 2, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Orchard with burial in the Orchard Hill Cemetery.

Joanne Marie Leiding was born January 27, 1937 in O'Neill, Nebraska to Lloyd Twibell and Dora Vollers Twibell. She attended country school and graduated from Orchard Public School in 1954. She obtained her teaching certificate immediately upon graduation and started teaching. Joanne began her 45+ year teaching career in the country schools, but spent the majority of her career at Orchard Public School where she touched many, many children's lives. She received her Bachelors of Science in Education from Wayne State College through summer school and night classes. Over the years she has supported numerous school and community activities.

She married Gordon Leiding December 26, 1956. They started farming south of Orchard and moved to their current farm a few years later. They had three daughters. Joanne enjoyed her pupils, working in the outdoors and her grandchildren. Her entire life was all about education.

Joanne passed away at the Plainview Manor on June 29, 2010. She is survived by her husband, Gordon; her three daughters: Lori and Roger Massie of Council Bluffs, IA, Janet and John McCain of Wisner, NE and Jody and Dennis Graskowiak of Plattsmouth, NE; grandchildren: Ann and Aaron Collingham, Kayla, Mason, Shayna and Vanessa McCain, Katie Graskowiak; great grandchildren: Wyatt and Morgan Collingham; siblings: Becky Johnston of Royal, NE, and Barbara Mitteis of Berthoud, Co.; and Jerry Twibell of Glenville, Ga. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Thomas Twibell.
