Dixie Lee Holton (Plainview)

Funeral services for Dixie Lee (Ferry) Holton, 73, will be held at the United Methodist Church in Plainview on Thursday, July 8th at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be held from 4-8 PM at the Ashburn Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 7th. Burial will be at the McCoy Cemetery located just south of Meadow Grove. Dixie Holton passed away on July 4th, 2010, after complications from a short battle with cancer.
Dixie was born in Meadow Grove on December 1st, 1936 to Roy and Lilah Ferry. She graduated from Meadow Grove High School in 1954. Upon graduation, Dixie attended Wayne Teacher’s College. She also worked for a short period at the Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company in Omaha. On June 1st, 1958, she married James D. Holton, also from Meadow Grove. James farmed south of Tilden and Dixie taught at a country school. To this union were born four children, Michael, Kelli, Cindy and Kathy. Moving into Tilden in 1971, they operated a restaurant called the Chicken Hut and also ran other cafes in the Neligh area. In 1994, Jim and Dixie moved to Plainview and lived there until her death.
Dixie was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, who passed away in 2002. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Dixie is survived by her sister Dorothy (Ferry) McNaughton of Hohenwald, Tn., her brother Ed Ferry and his wife Joyce of Plainview, children; Michael Holton and his wife Christine of Plainview, Kelli Holton of North Platte, Cindy Holton of Norfolk, and Kathy (Holton) King and her husband Michael of Lincoln. Surviving grandchildren include Christopher Holton and his fiancée Hayley Mohlman, PFC Tyler Holton, Pvt. Andrew Holton, Heather Holton, all of Plainview, and Tanner King of Lincoln.
Dixie’s greatest strength and love came from her unwavering passion for her children and grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
