Billie D. Patras (Plainview)

Funeral services for Bill Dean Patras, 73, will be held at Creighton Bible Church in Creighton on Monday, July 12th at 10:30 A.M. Visitation will be held from 4 - 8 P.M. at the Ashburn Funeral Home on Sunday, July 11th. Burial will be at the Brunswick City Cemetary. Bill passed away on July 7th, 2010 after a short battle with cancer. Bill was born south of Brunswick on April 21st, 1937 to Lloyd and Ivadelle Patras. He attended District 35 and District 122 schools in the Brunswick area. From the time he was a young boy he helped farm his family's land. He also worked at the Plainview Creamery before moving with his bride to California in 1962 where he istalled underground sprinkler systems with his brothers Ralph and Robert Patras. He moved his family back to Nebraska in 1972 where he returned to farming his family's land. He also worked for Marion and Wayne Rassmussen, caring for their land and livestock for nine years. From 1981 until 2005 he worked for Pierce County District #1 running the Maintainers and grading roads. On February 6th, 1960 he married Lois Woods from Creighton at the Grace Bible Church in Creighton. After moving to California, they welcomed their only child, a daughter, Brenda Sue born in Long Beach in November 1963. Bill was preceded in death by his father in 1959, his mother in 1992, his sisters Wanda Menke in 1996 and Betty Olson in 2004.
He is survived by his wife Lois, daughter Brenda and her husband David Lauver of Virginia Beach, Virginia, grandchildren Jacob and Lindsay Lauver of Virginia Beach, Cindy Lauver of Lincoln, great grandchildren Cerrissa, Braelyn and Cole, Sister Loydelle Swan of Plainview, Brothers Ralph Patras and his wife Jackie of Plainview, Robert (Bob) Patras and his wife Bobbie Jean of Placentia, California, and numerous nieces and nephews - all dear to his heart. Bill was a hardworking, selfless man with a teasing sense of humor. His greatest pleasures in life were his family and his love for fishing, hunting and the company of his many friends.
He will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives he touched.
