Max Arlo Baird (Brunswick)

Funeral Services for Max "Arlo" Baird age 85 of Brunswick will be held 10:30 Thusday July 29th at the Brunswick Community Chuch in Brunswick. Visitation for Arlo will be from 4-8 PM. on Wednesday at the Ashburn Funeral Home in Plainview.

Max Arlo Baird was born on May 4, 1925 on the family farm at Brunswick, Nebraska to Max and Fern Baird. Arlo attended grade school at District 61 in rural Antelope County and high school in Brunswick, Nebraska, graduating in 1941.

Arlo attended Wayne State Teachers college and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for two and a half years. Arlo served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946, serving in the European Theater-Austria at the end of World War II, reaching the rank of 1st Lieutenant.

After his discharge from the Army, he returned to work on the family farm. He married Helen L. Green on March 25, 1950 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He farmed and fed cattle until 1990, when he semi-retired. He continued to purchase feeder cattle until shortly before his death.

Arlo loved to travel and one of his memorable trips was the time he was able to tour in China.
Another trip was the Heartland Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to see the World War II monument. He was a life-long member of the Brunswick Community Church, where he served in numerous positions on the church board.

Arlo was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Fern Baird, brother Paul Baird, and sister Joanne Perkins. He is survived by his wife Helen of Brunswick, brother-in-law William Perkins of Boulder, Colorado, son David and wife Barbara of Minooka, Illinois, daughter Jane and husband Bob Larsen of Omaha, Nebraska, grandson John Maxwell Baird of Minooka, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews.

Arlo died peacefully at his home, surrounded by family on Sunday, July 25, 2010.
