Meldene Wachholtz
Norfolk - Services for Meldene A. Wachholtz, 86, of Norfolk, formerly of Plainview, will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview with the Rev. Jonathan Meraz officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ashburn Funeral Home in Plainview.
Meldene Amanda Krohn Wachholtz passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
Meldene was born November 13, 1924 at her rural Osmond home to Emil and Emma (Wiese) Krohn. She was one of seven children. She attended school at District 61 in rural Osmond. She was baptized April 5, 1924 and confirmed March 3, 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond. Meldene worked at the Osmond grocery store until her marriage to Raymond Carlyle Wachholtz on June 23, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Osmond. They made their home in Plainview. In 1940 they built their home in Plainview in which they lived for 60 years.
Meldene was an active member of Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid, church choir, L.W.M.L. Monday Bible Study Group and P.T.L. She served the local A.A.L as secretary/treasurer for many years and taught Sunday School and V.B.S.
Meldene had many hobbies that she enjoyed such as bowling, playing cards, traveling, sewing, cooking, reading, dancing and music. She especially liked to play cards with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Raymond of 64 years, and her children, Gene and wife Natalie of Kansas City, MO., Rhonda and husband John Wrenholt of Norfolk and Diane and husband Mark Reestman of Norfolk; grandchildren Dr. Amy Wachholtz-Ayala (Chris) of Shrewsbury, MA., Adam Wachholtz (Jill) of Highlands Ranch, CO., Mike Wrenholt of Florham Park, NJ., Matt Wrenholt of Lincoln, Tim Wrenholt of Omaha, Dan Wrenholt, Kyle Reestman, Kory Reestman, and Brett Reestman all of Norfolk; great grandchildren Tyler and Chase Wachholtz of Highlands Ranch, CO.; brothers Marvin and wife Marcy Krohn and Elvin Krohn all of Norfolk; sister-in-laws Renata Krohn, Helen Wachholtz and Bernice Holtzclaw all of Norfolk and Dorothy Krohn of Plainview as well as nieces and nephews along with many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Raymond and Harold Krohn; sisters Irma Wragge Clausen and Verna Krohn; brother-in-laws Bill Wragge, Albert Clausen, Gilbert and Fred Wachholtz, Carl Miller and Robert Holtzclaw; sister-in-laws Phyllis Krohn, Irene Wachholtz, and Ray’s sisters Elvera Miller and Helen Wachholtz.
