Betty Lou Schwager was born September 5, 1930 in rural Elgin, to Charles H. and Harriet (Gardner) Hamdorf. She was baptized in 1931 at Antelope Creek Church, rural Elgin. She attended School District #112, rural Elgin, later transferring to Neligh Public School and graduating in 1948. After graduation Betty worked at Hesteds Store, W.A. Buchanan, office of Antelope County Extension agent, office of County Judge Royal V. Sheets, and First National Bank, all at Neligh.

On March 31, 1957, she was united in marriage to Donald Dave Schwager at Orchard United Methodist Church. The couple lived in the rural Orchard and Clearwater areas. They were blessed with two daughters, Pamela and Irene.

She was especially proud of her quilts and completed several over the past few years. This year she was able to complete two quilts which were entered in the Antelope County Fair. Betty had never entered her quilts in competition. Both quilts won blue ribbons with her king-size quilt also winning the “Best in Antelope County” ribbon.
