Funeral Services for Charles R. "Bud" Bartak age 98 of Neligh, NE were at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at St. John's Catholic Church, rural Clearwater, Ne with Father James Kramper, Officiating. Music was provided by Mark and Julie Dwyer. Burial was in St. Anthony's Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bryan Palmer, Tanner Olson, CJ Bartak, Jay Palmer, Luke Palmer, Kevin Eggerling, Mike Mahony and Brent Weikel. Honorary Pallbearers were Jill Adams, Jean Myers, Kara Frisbie, Sara Mahony, Alison Kluthe, and Autumn Bartak. Visitation was from 5 to 7 pm, Monday, September 8, 2014 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home with a 7 pm Rosary Service with Father John Broheimer, Officiating. Bud passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Neligh, NE. Snider Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Charles R. "Bud" Bartak was born on February 14, 1916 to Charles J. and Aloisia (Vlasak) Bartak at home in rural Ewing, Nebraska. He attended grade school at Wheeler County Dist. #1. He graduated at the top of his class from Bartlett High School in 1934, where he was known as "the walking dictionary". He attended Creighton University for a short time. On September 23, 1939 he married Phyllis Savidge at St. John's. They lived on the ranch for 45 years. He formed a partnership with his dad on the home ranch. He incorporated with his son Chuck in 1973. He was a precinct assessor, president of the Weed District, and a range program inspector. He was in the Holy Name Society and the Farm Bureau, served on the school board for 25 years and was an association director on the Sandhill's Cattle Association. He married Margy Swanson-Clark on July 1, 1989. They moved to Neligh, where he was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He delivered meals on wheels "to the elderly" and worked in the food pantry. He enjoyed golfing, crossword puzzles, and jumbles.

Bud is survived by his wife, Margy of Neligh. Children: Judy (Bob) Eggerling of Neligh, Ne, Allan Bartak of O'Neill, Ne, Beverly (Rex) Weikel of Sloan, IA, Cathy (Keith) Palmer of Ewing, Charles P (Rita) Bartak of Ewing, and Christine (John) Olson of Bartlett. Step children: Gary (Jane) Clark of Amherst, Daniel Clark of Kearney, and Lynette (Bob) Tucker of Salt Lake City, Ut. Grandchildren: Kevin Eggerling, Kara (Joe) Frisbie, Jill (David) Adams, Cathy Weikel, Jean (Randall) Myers, Bryan (Bonnie) Palmer, Sara (Mike) Mahony, Alison (AJ) Kluthe, Luke (Mandy) Palmer, Jay (Jaci) Palmer, Autumn (Todd) Jensen, CJ Bartak, and Tanner Olson. Step grandchildren: Keisha (Jim) Mauler, Amber Grubber, Sean Clark, Tara (Tom) Mitchell, Kendra Clark, and Simon Tucker, 19 great grandchildren and 4 step great grandchildren. Sister: Anna Mae Andrews of Kearney. Sister-in-law: Irene Bartak of Phoenix, Az, Bunny Redfern of Butte, MT, Lenice Savidge of Elkhorn, Norma Peters of Elgin, and Brother-in-law, Wayne (Gloria) Swanson of Ogallala, many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, first wife Phyllis (she died Aug. 19, 1984), infant son, Charles Eugene, grandson, Brent Weikel brothers: Adolph, Elvin, Edwin, and Louis. Sisters: Rose Rethwisch, Elsie Knowles, Mildred Hockett, Sylva Mignery, and Eleanor Bennett.
