Funeral services for Clair William Schroth, formerly of Brunswick, were held Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Brunswick Congregational Church, with Pastor Bob Moore officiating. Snider-Beyer Funeral Home in Neligh handled arrangements.
Schroth died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, at the Golden Living Center in Neligh.
He was born June 21, 1921, the third child and only son of Clair Justice and Jennie (Sholes) Schroth, at Middle Branch. Clair attended elementary school at Middle Branch, Oakdale and Neligh, graduating from Neligh High School in 1939.
Clair and Lorraine "Toots" Forbes were married Oct. 1, 1942 in Taylor, TX. Schroth served in the United States Army at Fort Hood, Fort Swift and Fort Sam Houston in Texas, during August 5, 1942- April 13, 1943.
The couple returned to Brunswick where Schroth farmed, milked cows, raised livestock and broke horses. He served as the Brunswick chief of police and street, water and sewer commissioner for more than 40 years, retiring at the age of 80 in 2001.
He was a long-time member of the Brunswick Volunteer Fire Department, the Brunswick American Legion post, a saddle club, the Throttle Twisters, the Retread motorcycle club, the Night-out Riders motorcycle club and the Brunswick Community Church.
He was an avid horseman in his younger years and enjoyed riding and adorning motorcycles throughout his life.
Schroth became a resident of the Golden Living Center in April 2005.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; his parents; two sisters, Hazel Schroth and Helen Cheyney; brothers-in-law, Delton Cheyney, Raymond Forbes, John Forbes, Harold Forbes and Leslie Forbes.
He is survived by his son Larry and his wife Sandy; three grandchildren and their spouses, Missy and Chad Pittet, Angie Dickinson and Scott Bartels and Nick and Bonnie Schroth; nine great grandchildren, Amanda Pittet, Austin Pittet, Charley Pittet, Cole Dickinson, Clay Dickinson, Cade Bartels, Kendra (Paul) Johnson, Wyatt Schroth and Emilee Schroth; one great-great grandson, Bode Pittet; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Forbes and his wife Jackie and a number of nieces and nephews.
