Funeral Services for Darlene Walton age 79 of Fremont, NE were 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2017 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater, NE with Pastor Stuart Davis, Officiating. Visitation was 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater. Burial was in Hope-Enterprise Cemetery North of Orchard, NE. Darlene passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 West Holt Memorial Hospital in Atkinson, NE. Condolences may be directed to the family at www.snidermemorialfh.com Darlene Ruth Walton was born on March 13, 1937 to Ernest and Ruth (Miller) Humes at Orleans, NE. She attended Orleans High School and graduated with the Class of 1954. On July 25, 1957 she was united in marriage to Gordon Walton at Orleans, Ne. Darlene was a telephone operator, She worked at the Neligh Nursing Home as a nurses aide and then she went to Antelope Memorial Hospital as an admitting clerk and activities director until 1999. She then moved to Fremont and worked in the hospital in Fremont for 6 years when she retired. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting afghans, gambling, playing cards, and bowling. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She was a member of Eastern Star.
Survived by children: Mark (Teresa) Walton of Ewing, NE; Marcia (Garlen) Thurlow of Newport, NE; Gordon Walton of Grand Island, NE; and Sedina (Shannon) Hughes of North Platte, NE. 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Sister, Doris Mays of Lincoln, NE and Darrol Lund of Salina, KS. Sister-in-law Lorraine Humes of Orlean, NE; brother-in-law Gordon Lund of Brookville, KS.
Preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Gordalene; daughter-in-law Gena Walton; sister Dorothy Scarrow; brother LeRoy Humes, twin sisters Charlotte and Sharon. Brother-in-law Melvin Mays.
