Memorial Service for Glen L. Bowker, age 85, of Neligh were held at 2:30, Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the United Congregational Church of Christ in Neligh. The Pastor Janet Davis will officiate with Inurnment at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Neligh. Military Rites by Neligh American Legion Post #172 and VFW. There will be no visitation. Glen passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh. Glen L. Bowker was born to Roy Bowker and Eugenia (Davison) Bowker on September 13, 1927 in Neligh, Nebraska. He was the youngest of five children. He graduated from Omaha Benson High School in 1945 and then served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps. Glen attended the University of Omaha earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952. He was married to Elsie Milbourn Burchfield on March 18, 1950 in Papillion, NE. The couple had two children, Russell and Thomas.
He was employed in the newspaper and printing business and was editor of the Albion News and the Tilden Citizen Newspaper as well as the reporter and correspondent at the Norfolk Daily News. His public service work included serving on the Neligh Park Board, the Neligh Library Board, and at the time of his death he was serving on the Neligh Cemetery Association Board. He was especially involved in the Standing Bear Bridge project with the Highway 14 Association.
He preceded in death by his wife, Elsie, on September 7, 2011.
He is survived by his sons, Russell of Norfolk, NE and Thomas and his wife, Lisa of Mesa, AZ. 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Glen had an extensive knowledge of local history and his weekly newspaper columns were enjoyed by many.
