Funeral services for Leona Ziems age 93 of Clearwater will be at 10:30 am, Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at Concordia Lutheran Church with Rev. Daniel Feusse officiating and Caroline Jaeke organist. Burial will be in the Ziems Cemetery south of Ewing. Pallbearers will be Lyle Ziems, Larry Ziems, Jesse Ziems, Kevin Holtorf, Neal Steffen, and Robert Daniels. Honorary Pallbearers will be Misty Steffen, Amy Ziems, DeAnn Ziems, Shelia Ziems, and Mistie Liebhart. Visitation will be 5 to 8:00 pm Monday, August 21, 2006 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater. She passed away Friday evening August 18, 2006 at the Neligh Nursing Center in Neligh. Leona Ziems was born on July 6, 1913, at Platte Center, Ne to Anthony and Wilhelmine (Gering) Hassebrook. She attended rural school at Platte Center and was confirmed at Grand Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Platte Center. On February 27, 1940, she married William C. Ziems at Grand Prairie. The couple farmed near Ewing until 1978 when they retired and moved to Clearwater. William passed away on January 26,2000 at Neligh. Leona was a long time member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Ladies Aide and Holt Happy Homemakers extension club. She enjoyed family, flowers, gardening, and company. Her kitchen was always open. Survivors include two sons and their wives, David and Donna Ziems and Dennis and Donna Ziems all of Ewing; one daughter Norma and husband Marx Holtorf of Hordville: two sisters, Marie Feye of Columbus and Eleanor Garber of North Bend: two brothers Edward of Platte Center and Bill of Columbus: seven grandchildren; Lyle and Shelia Ziems and Amy Ziems of Lincoln, Larry Ziems and DeAnn Ziems, both of Ewing, Kevin Holtorf of Hordville, Misty and Neal Steffen of Kearney, Jesse Ziems of Columbus and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, husband, one granddaughter Linda Holtorf of Hordville, two sisters; Lydia Borcher, and Elsie Martensen, and one brother, Tony.
