Lewis Lou Vandersnick

Funeral Services for Lewis L. Vandersnick age 85 of Ewing, NE will be at 11:00 am Friday, January 15, 2016 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing, with Father James Kramper, Officiating.  Burial will be in Vandersnick Cemetery rural Ewing, NE with Military Rites conducted by Ewing Sander's American Legion Post #214. Visitation will be Thursday, 5;00 to 7:00 pm January 15, 2016 at St. Peter's Catholic Church with a 7 p.m. Rosary with Father Weeder, Officiating.  Lewis went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 11, 2016 at South Lake Village in Lincoln, NE.  Snider Memorial Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Memorials will be put towards the American Legion Sander's Post # 214, St. Peter's Catholic Church, and Ewing Public Schools. Lewis L. Vandersnick was born on January 2, 1931 in rural Ewing, NE to Leo and Cecelia (Thiele) Vandersnick. Lewis was baptized into the Catholic Faith on January 4, 1931. He attended Rural School District #118 until 8th grade; he then attended Ewing Public High School and graduated in 1948. While attending High School he was active in the sports programs. After high school Lewis attended Norfolk Jr. College where he played football. In July of 1952, Lewis left for Fort Omaha for the start of his 2 years of service in the U.S. Army. His Army career ended with an Honorable Discharge in July of 1954. After returning home, Lewis found himself hunting, fishing, and active in The American Legion Sander's Post 214 for 50 years. On June 28th 1955 Lewis married Marcia Gibson at St Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing with their reception held at St John's Parrish south of Ewing. After their honeymoon, they returned to the farm to start their life together. Lewis and Marcia were blessed with 9 children. They started Cache Creek Dairy Farm where each child had their own chores to be done before and after school. After the Dairy dispersion in 1975, Lewis traveled the country delivering fifth wheel campers. In 1976, he then made a big decision to go to work for Nebraska Harvester in Norfolk, where he traveled the country selling Harvesters to farmers until 1982. In 1983 Lewis decided to purchase more land and develop it into farming ground. Lewis retired from the farm at the age of 62. He met Yvonne Duggan and they became companions and traveled for years enjoying each other's company. Lewis enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's activities, no matter what or where it was. You could always find him on the bottom row of the bleachers doing a little extra coaching. Lewis still met with some very special army buddies every year.
Lewis is survived by his children: Chris Shoemaker, Margie (Steve) Lucchino, Jerry (Kim) Vandersnick, Cec Vandersnick, Sandy (Dean) Schueth, Connie (Tim) Pofahl, Gina Wright, Mark (Lori) Vandersnick. Lewis is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and very special friend and companion Yvonne Duggan. He was preceded in death by his wife of 20 years Marcia (Gibson) Vandersnick, son, Mike Vandersnick and his parents Leo and Cecelia Vandersnick, brother, Don, sister, Genevieve, sister, Laura and husband George Kaczor, brother in law, Dick Cunningham and several other relatives. Lewis was very thankful for the community of Ewing and members of St. Peter's Catholic Church, to have part of his life, his children and grandchildren's lives
