Funeral Services for Mark Thramer age 78 of Ewing will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at St. Peter�s Catholic Church in Ewing with Father James Kramper, officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter�s Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 26, 2008 from 4 - 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service all to be held at St. Peter�s Catholic Church in Ewing. Mark passed away August 23, 2008 at Parkside Manor in Stuart. Mark Thramer, son of Joseph & Elizabeth (Rotherham) Thramer was born at the Thramer ranch southwest of Ewing on March 30, 1930. He attended school at District 146 in Holt County. In 1937, the Thramer family moved to a farm southwest of Clearwater, and he went to school at District 60 in Antelope County, then to Sacred Heart High School, Norfolk, Nebraska. Mark married Joan Walnofer at St Peter's Catholic Church on June 7th, 1950. To this union one son, Mike was born. They ranched and farmed part of the Thramer homestead in Holt County where they lived. Mark & his brother, Cletus formed a partnership and purchased the Allis Chalmers Implement in Clearwater, moved it to Ewing & later O'Neill, Nebraska. He was very involved in bettering the community and helped his neighbors with what had to be done. Mark was instrumental in getting new businesses to Ewing. Entrepreneurship was the love of his live for himself and others. When the Ewing Coop Creamery closed, he purchased the building and set up a teen center, & later sold it to a company that formed Ewing Mfg. He contacted a fertilizer company in Elk Point, South Dakota and that company bought property in Ewing and formed a fertilizer outlet named Terra Western, employing Mark as manager. Mark and his partner added center pivot irrigation to the dealership in 1966 and sold pivots manufactured in Longmont, Colorado for Krueger Enterprise. In 1969 his business acquired Zimmatic Dealership in which he sold and erected the 13th center pivot that Lindsay Mfg. produced. In 1973 the Zimmatic dealership was sold to Lindsay Mfg. and they developed a company store, Ewing Irrigation, with Mark as designer and salesman. In later years he founded Ewing Enterprises that manufactured wood burning stoves and contracted with Olson Brothers of Atkinson, and developed a center pivot dealership in Ewing where he developed a sales and service center. Mark was also was a partner in building Two Rivers Steakhouse, and later the Two Rivers Motel. At the same time he developed and constructed homes for Midwest Homes of Rapid City, SD including the housing development west of Ewing. Mark was a member of St. Peters & St. Johns Catholic Church. He was involved with economic development, the Ewing Chamber of Commerce and many organizations in the Ewing and surrounding communities. His love for his family, relatives & FRIENDS will not be forgotten. Mark and his wife spent many winters in Florence Gardens, AZ. He loved to travel and fly his airplanes through the years. Mark is survived by his wife, son Mike & wife Cheryl (Koenig); grandchildren, Michelle Thramer and fianc� Garth Ostergard of Stuart, Thomas, Adam, and Tiffany Thramer of Ewing; sister, Alice Funk, Clearwater, Bernadine & husband, Bob Walnofer, O'Neill; brothers and their spouses, Alex (Joyce) and Cletus (Yvonne) Thramer of Ewing; brother-in-law, Ludwig Tagel of Grand Island, Nebraska; and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Loretta Tagel, brother-in-law, Clarence Funk, and grandson, Christopher Thramer.
