Funeral Service for Michael D. Petersen, age 68, of Lincoln, Ne will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 8, 2015 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Neligh, with Pastor Janet Davis, Officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Thursday, May 7, 2014 at Beyer Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Neligh. Michael went into the loving arms of our savior Jesus Christ on May 1, 2015 with his family at his bed side. Michael D. Michael was born on February 19th, 1947 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Betty (Reutzel) and Ronald Petersen. He was raised in rural Tilden, Nebraska and attended rural grade school, where his parents were area farmers and had three sisters. He graduated from Neligh High School in 1965. Following high school Michael went to Eugene, Oregon where he worked in area lumber mills processing fresh timber to make lumber. He served his country honorably in Vietnam as a member of the United States Army 101st Air Calvary Division. He was deployed in Germany and Vietnam from 1967-1968, and was a member of the Tilden American Legion. He married his wife, Barbara Hoerle on October 17, 1970 in Chambers, Nebraska. He was employed by Lincoln Electric System from 1970 until his retirement in 2013. After retirement he worked at Menards and for Anderson Mazda. Michael enjoyed spending time with his wife and children and being part of their activities that included soccer, softball and football games; music and band concerts; marching band performances. He loved going to Nebraska football games and was a season ticket holder from the 1990's until his untimely death. Enjoyed owning and driving his Mustangs and was part of the Capital City Ford and Mustang Club of Lincoln, NE as well as attending car shows. Enjoyed attending the coffee club get-togethers. Loved working on his cars as well as working outside in their large garden on their acreage. Had a special bond with his grandchildren Max and Britney. Spent the last few winters enjoying their winter home in Arizona that usually included special get-togethers with his cousins that live in the Phoenix area. Michael was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, cousin and father-in-law. He is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Barb Petersen. Sons: Brian Petersen and wife Cris of Lincoln their daughter Britney High and their son Maxwell Edwin Petersen. Troy Petersen of Chambers, Nebraska and Kevin Petersen of Omaha and his fiancée Nicole Trevett. Sisters: Theresa Unterseher of Omaha, NE; Beverly Petersen of Hampton, NE; Marlene (Rock) Avery of Danville, IN; Aunt Marjone Frost Brother-in-law Duane Hoerle as well as many nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by his parents Ronald and Betty Petersen; Mother and Father-in-law Edwin and Frances Hoerle; Sister-in-law Kathy (Hoerle) Zegers; Viewing will be held at Lincoln Memorial 6800 South 14th from 6-8 pm on Tuesday May 5th. Services will be at Christ Lutheran Church 4325 Sumner Street on Wednesday May 6th at 2 pm. Additional viewing on Thursday May 7th from 6-8 pm at the Snider Funeral Home. Services at First Congregational Church in Neligh on May 8th at 10:30 am. Burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery Neligh, Nebraska.
