Funeral services for Walter Miller age 87 of Ewing was at 10:00 am, Friday, June 20, 2014 at Evangelical Free Church in Orchard with Pastor Jim Reynolds and Rev. Duane Johnson, Officiating. Music was provided by Greg Walmer, Organist, Ellie Myers, Pianist, Stephanie Clifton, and Alison Mullins, Soloist. Burial was in Ewing City Cemetery in Ewing. Military Rites conducted by Sanders American Legion Post #214. Pallbearers were James Chaney, Mykel Miller, Nathan Ciha, Travis Ciha, Chris McKillip, and AJ Clifton. Visitation was 5 – 8 pm Thursday, June 19, 2014 with a 7:30 p.m. Prayer Service at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater, Ne. Walter passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. In lieu of flowers memorials may directed to Aseracare Hospice of O'Neill or Evangelical Free Church in Orchard. Walter Preston Miller was born on July 31, 1926 in Ewing, Nebraska to Howard and Vera (Trowbridge) Miller. He attended school in Ewing and graduated with the Class of 1943 from Ewing High School. On March 8, 1949 he was united in marriage to Alice Wolfe at her parents' home in Ericson, Ne. They were married for 65 years. He then enlisted in the United States Army on February 6, 1952 at Ft. Crook in Omaha. During that time he was stationed at Stuttgart Germany. On January 5, 1954 he was discharged at Ft. Sheridan at High Wood, ILL. In 1956, they welcomed into their home Daniel Walter to start their family. The family grew by two, in September 1961 when Linda and Donna came to live. In 1963, their family was completed with the addition of Ruth Darleen. Walter farmed all his life 5 1/2 Miles southeast of Ewing. He enjoyed hunting, any kind of sports, Huskers, going to grandkids events, and singing in the quartet. He was a member of Evangelical Free Church in Orchard and served as a Deacon for many years. Survived by his wife, Alice Miller of Ewing, NE. Children: Linda (Mike) Chaney of McPherson, KS, Donna (Tom) Arehart of Orchard, NE, Daniel (Jan) Miller of Ewing, NE, and Ruth (Mark) Hawk of Elkhorn, NE. 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one expecting to arrive in July. Sister, Altha Lou Bosell of Stanwood, WA, sister-in-law, Shirley Miller of Battle Creek, NE, and brother-in-law, Gerald Hadduck of Westminster, CO. Preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jeanetta Hadduck; brother, Leo Miller; grandson-in-law Mark Mullins; Brother-in-law David Bosell.
