Memorial Services for Gena Walton, age 41 of Ewing Thursday, 4:00 p.m. April 21, 2011 at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Ewing with Pastor Eric Ford, Officiating. Another memorial will be held for Gena at First Baptist Church, Zavalla, TX in May for her family and friends in Texas. Gena Sheffield Walton was born on June 21, 1969 in Lufkin, Tx to Wanda (Stanley) and Gene Sheffield and passed to her new life with Christ on April 18, 2011.
At 11 years of age she made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ at Zavalla First Baptist Church and attended United Methodist-Presbyterian of Ewing while living there. Gena attended Zavalla Tx schools and graduated high school in 1987. While playing basketball for the Zavalla Eagles she was named to All District Team twice and chosen for girl athlete of the year her senior year. Gena joined the US Air force as a medical technician in 1990 and served in Germany during Desert Strom. While stationed at Carswell AFB in Ft. Worth, Tx she met and married Gordie Walton from Nebraska on July 18, 1992. She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Gordie of Ewing, Ne. Beloved sons, Joshua and Jacob of Ewing, Ne. Mother and step-father: Wanda and Don Blankenship of Broaddus, Tx. Father and step-mother: Gene and Bobbie Sheffield of Kirbyville, Tx. Sister, Wendy Sheffield of Zavalla, Tx. Nieces: Jenna Sheffield and Brianna Cowan of Zavalla, Tx. Nephew: Samuel Syzdek of Lufkin, Tx. Mother-in-law Darlene Walton of Fremont, Ne. Aunts and Uncles: Phyllis and Johnnie Davis of Lufkin, Tx, Ann Cheney of Zavalla, Tx, Jay and Sue Hess of Huntington, Tx, Dorothy Basham of Beaumont, Tx, and Dell Stringer of Vidor, Tx. Uncle: Bennie Sheffield of Zavalla, Tx. Step brothers: Marcus Beaver of Port Arthur, Tx and Michael Beaver of Kirbyville, Tx. Sisters and Brother-in-laws: Garlen and Marcia Thurlow of Newport, NE and Sedina Benitz of North Platte, Ne. Brother and Sister-in-law: Mark and Teresa Walton of Ewing, Ne. Numerous other relatives. Special people in her life were: Tracie Marshall, Tx., Angie Hlavaty, Fla., Sunny Day, Tx., Sherry Hess, Tx. The George and Elaine Ramold family who claimed her as one of their own, Jen Cunningham, Tracie Jussel, Colleen Ramold (her sister from another mister) Jamie Graber-Hartigan, Idella Tuttle and Shannon and Tracie Drobny, and friends too numerous to list. Also cherishing her memory is her beloved cockerspaniel, Barkley.
