Funeral Services for Wayne Patras age 93 formally of Clearwater was at 10:30 am, Monday, December 5, 2011 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home with Pastor Carroll Plisek, Officiating. Music was provided by Carol Thiele. Burial was in Clearwater Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by Clearwater American Legion Post #267. Pallbearers were Jeremy Sanne, Tyler Sanne, Christopher McKillip, Jesse McKillip, Brett Branstiter, and Paul Kester. Visitation was 3:00 to 5:00 pm Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater. Wayne passed away on December 1, 2011 at Norfolk Veterans Home in Norfolk, Nebraska. Wayne L. Patras was born on June 1, 1918 to Lewis and Allie (Flowers) Patras in Neligh, Nebraska. He attended school in Clearwater and graduated with the class of 1937 from Clearwater High School. On July 24, 1937 he was united in marriage to Mary Magdalyn Twiss in Center, Ne. He went to Vancouver, WA to work in the shipyards. Wayne entered the United States Army on July 26, 1944 at Ft. Leavenworth KS. He took his basic training at Camp Hood, TX. He served in the European Theater, and was in campaigns in Ardennes Rhineland Central Europe. He received a star for each campaign. He received the combat infantry badge. He was discharged on December 8, 1945 from Ft. Leavenworth, KS. After the service he came back to Clearwater to his wife and family. Where he worked at the Post Office in Clearwater as clerk, postmaster, and rural mail carrier. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Wayne was a member of the Clearwater American Legion Post #267. Survived by his children: Lonnie and wife Belva Patras of Norfolk, NE, Wanda and husband Jerry McKillip of Elgin, NE, Tom and wife Elaine Patras of Papillion, NE, Janice Walton of Clearwater, NE. Grandchildren: Kelli Schuster, Deb Branstiter, Dennis McKillip, DeeAnn Sanne, Michael Patras, Michelle Thomsen, Chad Patras, and Mark Patras. 18 great grandchildren. 9 great great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and wife. brothers and sisters: Boyd Patras, Nathalie Sullivan, Dale Patras, Avis Berry, Donald Patras, Verle Patras, Joan Sullivan, June Patras Hackbarth, and 2 infancy. Grandson, Craig Latzel , great granddaughter, Jamie McKillip, great great granddaughter, Chloe Kester.
