Funeral Services for Althea J. Petersen age 99 of Neligh formally of Ewing, NE will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2008 at United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Ewing, NE with Pastor Dillon Hess, Officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in the Laurel Hill Cemetery at Neligh, NE.
Althea passed away September 27, 2008 at St. Joseph's Rehabilitation & Care Center in Norfolk.
Althea Josephine Petersen was born on December 9, 1908 to Earl and Etta (Swain) Posson in Ewing, NE. Althea was baptized at the United Methodist-Presbyterian Church in Ewing, NE. She graduated from Ewing High School in 1927. She worked in the Ewing Library and was the first Librarian. She also worked at Miller�s Drug Store. Later she was offered a job at the Ewing Creamery. She was working there when she was talked into marriage by Hans Petersen. They were married on December 12, 1935 at Valentine, NE. To this union 4 children were born. They lived in Burley, ID where Allen was born. Then they moved back to Ewing, NE where Elwood was born. Then moved to a farm at Ord, NE where Marietta and Tamzan were born. In 1943 they moved to Ewing where they raise their family. All the kids in the neighborhood would gather at the Petersen house to play. In October 1959, Hans passed away. She has been a wonderful Mother, Mother-In-Law, and Grandmother. She has spent many hours helping us all out in times of need or when we came home with new babies she always there to help us out. Althea loved going places and seeing people - No one is a stranger to her. She was a member of Methodist Ladies Church Society.
Althea was a member of the Methodist-Presbyterian Church all her life. She is survived by Allen (Lois) Petersen of Neligh, NE; Elwood (Joan) Petersen of Norfolk, NE; Marietta (Lonny) Miller of Norfolk, NE; and Tamzan (Merrell) Forslund of O�Neill, NE. 11 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren, and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. 3 step Great Grandchildren and 4 step Great Great Grandchildren.
Althea is preceded in death by her parents; Husband, Hans; a sister, Charlette Posson; and grandson Philip Forslund. A step Daughter Avis and step Granddaughter Laureen.
