Arlene Liska

March 29, 1927 — November 11, 2024

A Funeral service and celebration of life for Arlene Block Liska, age 97 of Verdigre will be held at 11:00 a.m. November 15 at the Lutheran Church in Niobrara, Nebraska.  Visitation will be prior to service starting at 10:30 Pastor Martha Atkins will be officiating. Ashburn Funeral Home of Plainview is in charge of arrangements. Military Honors will be conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and Niobrara American Legion and V.F.W.

Arlene passed away in her sleep on Monday, November 11 at her home at Alpine Village.

The daughter of Herman and Georgia (Hrbek) Block. Arlene was born in Walnut Nebraska, March 29, 1927. She attended district 63 country school house in the Walnut area. She graduated from Verdigre High school in 1943.

Arlene was full of energy and was never at a lack of anything to do. She had spent time in the Army in Omaha, Colorado, and St. Louis.  She had planned to attend medical school in St. Louis when everything changed. Alene and her friend joined together and went to beauty school in Sioux City. She graduated school in 1948. She worked in Spencer, Nebraska, and later Verdigre where she owned the Beauty Block.

Arlene married the love of her life Danny on May 12,1951 in a small ceremony at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado. and the adventure of 2 began.  Along with the duo’s travels, they went to schools with their souvenirs, showing and talking about their adventures to students. On March 10th, 1966 she was on the Television show “To Tell the Truth” She and her husband spent many miles on their motorcycles and were inducted into the TeamStrange Airheads M/C. During her life she worked at Swanson Hunting Acres, Moody Motor Company, Tested Dairy for A.M.P.I.in Cedar and Knox County, In 1996 Alene retired from the Knox Cedar Count DHA Board.  She also delivered the Niobrara Paper to Crofton for printing prior to the flood. She was featured in the Living Here Magazine in the fall of 2015.  Before moving into the Alpine Village, she worked at Renew Salon.

Memorial can be directed to the Lutheran Church in Niobrara.
