Audrey Fern Green

September 24, 1930 — September 2, 2020

Audrey Fern Green, age 89, was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on September 24, 1930 to John Henry and Mildred Elaine Johnson and passed away September 2, 2020 at St. Elizabeth CHI Hospital in Lincoln.   Graveside services and a celebration of life will be held by family at a later date in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Audrey shared her early years with two brothers, Gerald and Lyle, and two sisters, Shirley and Lorene, on a farm near McClelland, Iowa.  Due to the times and family struggles, Audrey lived for three years in an orphanage in Council Bluffs, Iowa until her mother could secure a home for the family.  Audrey graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs in 1948 and then began her career in the working world.

Audrey began her career as a secretary and worked her way over a period of 28 yrs. into an executive sales promotion position for Stauffer Chemical Co. in Omaha.  She enjoyed the travel and opportunities of meeting new people across the United States.  She was a proud member of the National Secretaries Association.  After retirement from Stauffer, Audrey worked a variety of temporary jobs in the Omaha area.  For a period of time Audrey lived in the Phoenix, Arizona area giving in-home care for the elderly, as well trying her hand at running her own home-based retirement facility.

In 2001 Audrey moved to Plainview and became involved within the community.  She was the local Chamber of Commerce secretary for a period of years, volunteered at the Klown Doll Museum, participated in activities at the Plainview Social Center, and was a member of the Methodist Church. For Audrey, the best part of church was the choir.  She loved to sing and play her baby grand piano.

Audrey loved to sew and made many an outfit in her lifetime.  She also used these talents to sew quilts, curtains for a southern college dormitory and costumes for the opera at the Orpheum Theater in Omaha.  Audrey did a good deal of crocheting and her nieces and nephews received the benefits of this talent.  Another love was to grow flowers and her years in Plainview allowed Audrey to plant a variety of flowers and scrubs.  Audrey was an avid reader and enjoyed expanding her personal library.

Audrey is survived by her four children:  Daniel (Blanch) Schultz of Council Bluffs, IA; Kathleen (Merle) Johansen of Plainview, NE; David Waide of Ralston, NE, and Max Green Jr. of Council Bluffs, IA.  Audrey had 7 grandchildren: Kristian Schultz, Robert Schultz, Trisha Baker, Shawn Waide, Jeremiah Johansen, Jason Johansen, and Dr. Katrina Fox; 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.  Audrey is also survived by her sister Lorene (Robert) Chambers of Dallas, TX.

Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Mildred Johnson, her brothers, Gerald and Lyle Johnson and her sister, Shirley Lehmann.  Also preceding her in death was her husband Herbert Schultz, and exhusbands Timothy Waide and Maxwell W. Green.

The last six years of her life were spent in the care of the Plainview Manor.  Memorials can be given to the manor on her behalf.
