Funeral Service for Barbara C. Hughes age 90 of Neligh, NE will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2017 at 1st Congregational United Church of Christ in Neligh with Pastor Terry Buol, Officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Beyer Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Neligh. Barbara passed away October 15, 2017. Beyer Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Neligh is handling arrangements. In lieu of Flowers family is asking memorials to be given to 1st Congregational United Church of Christ or Neligh Fire Department. Barbara Catherine Hughes was born on September 11, 1927 to George and Thelma (Laborde) Hopkins at Neligh, Ne. She attended school at Neligh and graduated from Neligh High School with the Class of 1944. She received the Outstanding 1994 Honored Alumnus. On June 1, 1947, she was united in marriage to Dean E. Hughes at 1st Congregational Church in Neligh. They lived in Neligh where she worked at the Antelope County Court House. In 1957 she started working at The National Bank of Neligh (now known as Pinnacle Bank) for 35 years before retiring. Barbara was involved with women's fellowship, fine arts, VFW Auxiliary, volunteered at Blood Mobile, board member at Senior Center, and women's bowling league. She was a member of 1st Congregational Church of Christ for 75 years. Barbara enjoyed crocheting, knitting, flower gardens, baking cookies for grandchildren, Nebraska football, and traveling to bowl games with Dean. She is survived by her children: Diana (Roger) Beed of Carpenter, Wy, Larry (Marie) Hughes of Palm Desert, CA, Connie (Rick) Otto of Pierce, NE, and Judy Hughes of Columbus, NE. 11 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren, and 4 step great great grandchildren. Sister, Lois Sprout of Elgin, NE and brothers Robert "Bob" (Marilyn) Hopkins of Laurel, NE, and Alvin (Nadine) Hopkins of Minden, NE. Preceded in death by parents and husband, Dean (2000), grandson, Steven G. Beed (2016), brother and sister-in-law Bill (Wm) and Bonnie Hopkins, brother-in-law Wm Sprout, niece Linda Marie (Hopkins) Milne.
