Funeral services for Bill Lawson age 78 of Neligh were 10:30 am, Thursday, March 27, 2014 at United Methodist Church in Neligh with Pastor Fay Hubbard, Officiating. Music was provided by Marie Krohn, Pianist and Brittney Marshall, Oboe solo. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Neligh with Military Rites conducted by Neligh American Legion Post #172. Pallbearers were Don Marshall, Don Gartner, Tim Good, Dave Zegers, Billy Le, and Dennis Anderson. Honorary Pallbearers were Blackburn Manufacturing Employees. Visitation was 5 – 7 pm Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Beyer Snider Memorial Funeral Home. Bill passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014 in Neligh, Ne. Memorials may be directed to Mosaic in Axtell, NE. Billy "Bill" Joe Lawson was born on March 2, 1936 to John and Vincinci Lawson in Owasso, OK. He attended high school and college in Oklahoma. He played football for Okie State and also played regimental football in Germany. On September 1, 1961 he was united into marriage to Jeanie Weaver at Epworth Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK. Bill enlisted in the United State Army on November 12, 1961 at Skiatook, Ok and was discharged on August 7, 1962 from Fort Polk, LA. After the service Bill and Jeanie made their home in Tulsa until 1974, when they moved to Neligh, NE, where he was a partner in establishing Blackburn Printing Company which was a silk screening process of marking flags. He loved to fish and anything to do with sports, especially Sooners football. He was a member of American Legion, Pheasants Forever; and Sooners Booster Club. He was survived by his daughters: Sylvia and husband Randy, Allen of Neligh, NE and Billie Jo "BJ" Lawson of Axtel, NE; grandson, Brad Marshall and special friend Candice Roth of Neligh, NE; granddaughter, Brittney Marshall of Neligh, NE. Three brothers: John Lawson, Ed and wife, Cathy Lawson, and Vince and wife, Betty Lawson and many family members. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sisters: Mary and Margie.
